Mayor meets Gmada Chief Administrator regarding waste management problem

Submits Demand Letter for Solution to Garbage Disposal Problem

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, 8 July 2025:
To resolve the growing problems and public complaints regarding garbage processing in Mohali city, Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation, Amarjit Singh Sidhu, met today with GAMADA’s Chief Administrator Vishesh Sarangal.
During the meeting, in the presence of residents and respected individuals from Phase 5 and Phase 11, along with municipal councillors, Mayor Sidhu handed over a written demand letter to the GAMADA official. Through the letter, he requested the relocation of the garbage processing plants located near the RMC point in Phase-5 and near the railway line in Phase-11 due to the foul smell and other issues arising from these facilities.
He said that both plants are situated very close to residential areas, causing daily inconvenience to the locals due to the stench. Some residents even mentioned that their personal lives were being adversely affected, and they were being forced to move to other locations to live.
The Mayor also highlighted that there is increasing opposition from locals against garbage processing in these areas, and it has now become essential to shift these processing points outside the city limits.
While speaking to the media, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jiti Sidhu informed that Chief Administrator Vishesh Sarangal has assured him that approximately 30-4 acres of land near Jhanjeri, under GMADA’s control, would be allocated to Mohali Municipal Corporation for establishing a dumping ground. This step is aimed at effectively resolving the growing issues of waste accumulation and related environmental problems.
Present on the occasion were Municipal Councillors Harjeet Singh Bholu, Sucha Singh Kalour and Jagdish Jagga, Ranjit Singh Gill Jagatpura and several residents of Phase 11 and Phase 5.
